Black History Month 2020

What´s the significance of Black History Month?

Black History Month

Black History Month is a time to celebrate the accomplishments of people from African dissent in every area of endeavor throughout the history of the continent.  Africans in the Diaspora celebrate this special month in countries like the United Kingdom in October, Canada recognized the Black history month in February while in Berlin Germany , France and other individual initiatives to put a spotlight on the African heritage.

According to article written by Clayton Bryan, a Principal Consultant at Talentful on this great event, Black History Month has taken place in the UK for over thirty years.  Every year, many activities are programmed throughout the month of October such as inviting key speakers to mark the Black History Month in series of talks that explore the history of Black Culture and people of African dissent in London.

Black History Month, be it in February or October tells a story of  African people across the globe. It´s a sad story indeed which starts from the period of slavery, to colonization of the continent. Our history as black people has not yet been told because the history taught to our children in the Diaspora is European history.

Black History month is a reminder for Africans in the Diaspora to embrace their roots. If this is why it is celebrated in the Diaspora, it has served its purpose to bring us together.
